National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)


The National Archives are a must for any genealogist. The amount of information you can find there is mind-boggling and increases all the time. This is the best place to start if you are searching for records of military veterans!

The headquarters are in Washington DC but NARA maintains locations across the country that are open to the public and staffed with very knowledgeable volunteers to help you navigate through the collections. They also have on-line access to Ancestry.com.
